Red worm compost bins?

hi i have a fire belly newt and i was tired of looking for worms every week and my land lord/neighbor said i should make a compost bin and no sites i found on google helped so i wanted to know how i could make a successful small shoe box compost bin where the worms would breed or just thrive.
