Why do Republicans think Obama is a father figure that know best like what they fallow?

Obama did not pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan, did not close Gitmo. So why are they complaining about Obama listening to the high br on the ground telling Washington they need more time? Should Obama just tell them he is the decider. A commander in chief still has to gather info from high br.
