How fast is the growth rate of a green euonymus, that is planted in the southwest desert region?

New landscaping is just being installed to combat the noisy neighbor across the street. But I am worried the hedge type shrubs I am planting won't grow fast enough to be of any use for a year or 2. When they were purchased these were approximately 18" tall.
