Acid rain or snow is made when droplets of water mix with air pollution like sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitric oxide (NOx) in clouds. When you add SO2 or NOx to water, it makes sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and nitric acid. The sulphuric acid and nitric acid mix up with water in the air (tiny drops, like in fog, steam, evaporation). When it rains or snows after this mixing, the raindrops have acid in them-- and we get acid rain or acid snow.
